Shows like the Wind at My Back, the Beachcombers, Black Harbour were great, but the powers that be kept moving them around in the schedule. So the ratings went down. There were a few great Quebec shows that had been translated into English, He Shoots, He Scores and another one with a name I can't remember about a schoolteacher who gave birth to a child out in the snow. They were fantastic.

I'd like to see more Quebec movies on CBC, more Canadian shows developed by the CBC, concerts featuring Canadian performers like Ron Sexsmith, Sam Roberts and Andy Stochansky. Let's celebrate our wonderful Canadian idenity. Let's get rid of the watered down Hollywood crapola. And let's not just copy American tv shows, and please no reality tv...that is just awful.

I'd like to see shows like the Life and Times also. More biographies of Canadian writers would be wonderful. Poets like John Newlove and Irving Layton for instance both have had wonderful documentaries done on them. (What to make of it all, the life and poetry of John Newlove by Robert MacTavish (www.movingimages.ca) and Red Carpet for the Sun on Irving Layton (this was a CBC life and times production, I'd like to see again). What about making a film based on the Shadowmaker, Rosemary Sullivans bio on Gwendolyn MacEwen, or doing a story on Elizabeth Smart, the Ottawa writer who wrote By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept? There's so much good fodder for Canadian television these days. Do it.

As to radio, I love shows like Definitely Not The Opera on Radio 1, Fuse and Bandwidth. I cannot stand it when you try to do radio plays. They are often the worst acted plays around. I listen to the Words at Large and Sounds like Canada Podcasts and these are great.
