I dearly miss the 'old' CBC I grew up with in the late 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The hosts were likeable, the shows were great entertainment or informative. There were very few commercial interuptions, and if there were most of them were of local retail shops and services. The station (CBWT) had a local feel to it, for example its station id "CBC Winnipeg, channel 6, cable 2" used until 1981/82.

Bring back the award winning 24Hours local news, which was at the time the template for The Journal.

Many of the 'old' shows that were cancelled were the most successful. Please consider bringing some of them back ... Front Page Challenge, The Journal, and Take30 are a start. Be careful with the Gill Deacon show. Don't 'feminize' it too much. Make it something that the straightest man would want to watch too.

And as far as The National is concerned ... isn't it time that Peter Mansbridge hand over the reins to a new, younger generation? Yet back in '79-'82 I really liked watching Peter doing those News Specials. When he does the news nowadays I tend to not watch. When Diana Swain, Brian Stewart, or Ian Hanomansingh, or others do it I will watch more often. I've seen similar comments on the alt.tv.networks.cbc Usenet group. Why did CBC get rid of the separate current affairs program and separate host? This is stupid. Too much Peter is NOT a good thing. The music theme for The National is too war-like, too 'jackboots' for my liking. Remember this is Canada, not the United States ... or the U.S.S.R.!

Radio is mostly fine, I think. I used to like listening to the local phone in show, CBC Radio Questionnaire from 1 till 2 p.m. Now we have "Up to Speed with Margeaux Watt". The new program is weak in that it really isn't a phone-in show, it's mixed in with musical interludes, weather, news and traffic reports, further diluting democratic discussion, but isn't this what the right-wing conservatives want, to eliminate debate on issues? The EHOLE 60 minutes should be devoted to current events phone-in.

I like The Current most mornings, but find that it's not as good as when it first started in 2004. Too much talk on Iraq, or Hezbolah vs Israel is not interesting to me. I switch to local station CJOB then, or the local jazz station CJZZ.

The website is fine. I like the BBC-theme it has. It's nice that you had some forethought and considered us Mozilla Firefox users. I would like to see you dig up the archives from the local CBC stations and put some of that material on the CBC Archive site before it shrivels up into nothing or can no longer be played back. I'm interested in seeing and hearing clips of news and events that took place during the 1940s - 1960s in Winnipeg. I'm sure others feel the same way about having access to their clips from their community on the CBC site.
